OCD welcomes DND Officer-in-Charge Faustino

Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad welcomed Department of National Defense (DND) Officer-in-Charge Senior Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr. earlier today at the OCD New Admin Building in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. With OCD’s deputy administrators, service and regional directors, and division chiefs in attendance, Usec. Jalad provided a comprehensive briefing for OIC Faustino and his party on the mandate, programs and activities of the OCD including its functions as executive arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Usec. Jalad also presented OIC Faustino and the other new DND officials the accomplishments and thrusts of the OCD as well as an overview of the Philippine DRRM System. OIC Faustino was also introduced to his role as chairperson of the NDRRMC and the upcoming DRRM engagements which the DND OIC is expected to attend in 2022.
NDRRMC gears up for the National Disaster Resilience Month 2022 Observance

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), through the Office of Civil Defense, again leads the month-long celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) starting from July 1 to 29, 2022 with the theme: “Sambayanang Pilipino, nagkakaisa tungo sa katatagan at maunlad na kinabukasan.” which seeks to advocate unity towards resilience and sustainable development.
An online kick-off ceremony will be held tomorrow, July 1, 2022 via livestream on Civil Defense PH and NDRRMC social media pages to mark the official start of the observance. Similar to last year, a webinar series dubbed as ‘Resilience Hours’ will be conducted every Thursday of the month. Topics to be discussed will cover the four thematic areas of DRRM: Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; Preparedness; Response; and Rehabilitation and Recovery.

The mining industry plays a huge role in stimulating the national economy and contributing to the country’s socioeconomic development. With the opportunities and risks it poses to people and the environment in the medium and long term, the industry needs to be scrutinized, reviewed, and monitored. In 2012, the Philippine government issued Executive Order (EO) No. 79 to institutionalize and implement reforms in the mining sector. The Mining Industry Coordinating Council (MICC), an inter-agency body, was created to assess and review all mining operations concerning their compliance with existing laws and regulations. It also reviews mining-related laws, rules, and regulations, and provides corresponding policy recommendations to improve their effectiveness and relevance.
All set for President Bongbong Marcos’ inauguration, OCD heightens preparedness for response

To ensure effective emergency preparedness and response services during today’s historic oath taking of the country’s 17th President, Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. at the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is leading the Joint Task Group on Emergency Preparedness for Response (JTG EPR) in Manila.
This joint group is composed of five Task Groups: 1. TG Fire Safety and Fire Suppression; 2. TG Chemical, Biological Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives, 3. TG Medical Emergency and Management; 4. Search, Rescue, and Retrieval, and 5. Task Group Service Support who will provide response services during oath taking should the need arise. This task group is composed of 406 personnel from OCD, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Local Government Units of Parañaque, and Valenzuela.
