OCD CARAGA conducts a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) for 45 National Service Training Program (NSTP) Coordinators and Directors in Caraga Region on April 25-29, 2016 at Goat 2 Geder Hotel, Butuan City.
The training aims to capacitate the NSTP Coordinators on CBDRRM as well as their basic competencies in community service particularly in DRRM. The Republic Act 9163 or the National Service Training Program Act of 2009 mandates the establishment of the National Service Reserve Corps which is composed of Civil Welfare Training Service and Literacy Training Service graduates. The government may mobilize the NSRC for initiatives related to DRRM, education, national emergency, environmental protection and other activities to serve the nation.
“This training is done during summer break making it very timely so in the start of the 2016-2016 classes of colleges and universities in the region, these trained NSTP coordinators/directors could impart their gained knowledge on CBDRRM to their NSTP students. Likewise, they could already roll down CBDRRM during their barangay immersion”, Dir. Manuel Luis Ochotorena, OCD Regional Director and RDRRMC Chairperson said.
The training allows the NSTP coordinators/directors to be involved in DRRM activities. “We acknowledge your participation and contribution in DRRM. We are very elated for we see how you give importance to this training,” Dir. Ochotorena expressed.
The training covers five modules. The four thematic areas namely disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response and disaster rehabilitation and recovery are emphasized during the training.
This has been the second batch of CBDRRM Training of OCD Caraga for this year. The first was conducted on March 12-16, 2016 for Indigenous Peoples Youth Communicators in the region.
