NDRRMC pushes for Additional Emergency Shelter Assistance for TY Odette Victims

With the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) rolling in Typhoon-Odette-hit areas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council approved the recommendation to request to the Office of the President (OP) the provision of Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) for affected families in an emergency council meeting today.
The NDRRMC’s Shelter Cluster, in the said meeting, identified the provision of cash assistance and housing materials, and the setting up of transitional shelters as part of the government’s relief effort.

With more than one million families affected by Typhoon ‘Odette,’ the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), its member agencies, regional and local counterparts continue to aid and provide relief to typhoon-hit communities in various regions.
The NDRRMC Logistics Cluster reported that as of today, January 7, 2022, 4.8 million kilograms of assorted relief items were delivered to regions pummeled by TY 'Odette’.
Twenty-three sea vessels from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), 27 naval assets from the Philippine Navy (PN), 28 aerial assets from the Philippine Air Force (PAF), and 96 wing vans from the Office of Civil Defense, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and World Food Programme (WFP) have been deployed for relief missions.
OCD provides emergency comms between Siargao and NDRRMC after disruption due to TY “Odette”

The Office of Civil Defense is continuously providing emergency telecommunications services to the on-site Emergency Operations Center in Siargao to re-establish coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City for situation updates and response operations in the province.
The OCD deployed its emergency telecommunications team (ETT) yesterday to re-establish the communication link between NDRRMOC and Siargao province after communication disruption due to Typhoon Odette.
The team set up the equipment including VSAT for data connectivity, satellite phone for voice connectivity and drone for video surveillance at Siargao Domestic Airport.

In an Emergency Full Council Briefing spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Friday evening, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his concern about the possible number of casualties that Typhoon Odette might bring in the hard-hit areas.
“I am not so worried about the structures… infrastructures of government. Ang takot ko is kung maraming namatay.” He said that he wanted to see for himself the damage created by Typhoon Odette.
