The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) inaugurated a newly built alternate Government Command and Control Center (GCCC) in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, Friday, 29 April 2022.
The establishment of the new facility is part of OCD’s effort to push for continuity of operations in case of an unlikely disaster that could compromise the functionality and safety of the NDRRM Operations Center.
“The NDRRMC could not have a more suitable location other than here in Fort Magsaysay”, said NDRRMC Chairperson and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in his key message as he acknowledged the potential threat of a major earthquake in Metro Manila that could disrupt operations in the main quarter in Camp Aguinaldo.
Sec. Lorenzana also emphasized that being quartered in Nueva Ecija, the new DRRM facility will be within easy reach to the people, to DRRM partners, and to the colleague-government workers.
The establishment of the facility is pursuant to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s directive on December 5, 2017, ordering the construction of alternate GCCCs in areas identified by OCD.
Meanwhile, NDRRMC Executive Director and Civil Defense Administrator, Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad noted that OCD will remain committed to its goal of advancing the response capabilities of uniformed personnel while implementing initiatives of building DRRM facilities.
Following the inauguration proper, a simulation of response capability also took place as DRRM personnel demonstrated the system and coordination processes during emergencies.
