The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through the Office of Civil Defense concluded the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) with the official launching of the NDRRM Plan 2020-2030 and the awarding of winners of the NDRM contests today, July 30, 2021.

NDRRMC Executive Director and Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ricardo B. Jalad in his opening remarks thanked the public for its participation in the NDRM activities and expressed his gratitude for the continued advancement of DRRM.

"Ipinapauna ko na ang aking pasasalamat sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan para sa kanilang pagtangkilik at pagsuporta sa ating mga isinagawang aktibidad para sa 2021 National Disaster Resilience Month." Usec. Jalad said.

“Tigib ang aming kasiyahan dahil kitang-kita ang tuloy na pag-unlad ng ating DRRM system, hindi lang bilang isang proseso kundi isang prinsipyo na nasa puso ng bawat Pilipino.” he added.

Meanwhile, NDRRMC vice chairs shared their messages of support for NDRM and the NDRRMP 2020-2030 launching.

Department of Science and Technology Sec. Fortunato De La Pena, Department of the Interior and Local Government Usec. Bernardo Florece, Department of Social Welfare and Development Usec. Felicisimo Budiongan and National Economic and Development Authority Usec. Mercedita Sombilla expressed their support and shared their respective efforts for the enhancement of DRRM in the country.

NDRRMC Chairperson and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana in his keynote message, noted the collective effort of various sectors as well as international engagements in strengthening disaster resilience.

He also enjoined the public to "educate people that Disaster Resilience Month is not just simply an annual activity but a continuing intergenerational commitment towards securing our country's future,"

The launching of NDRRMP was led by Usec. Jalad and Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Assistant Secretary Hernando Caraig Jr. through a brief unveiling ceremony.

This was followed by the awarding ceremony for NDRM contests' winners.

Asec. Caraig concluded the NDRM closing ceremony, assuring the public of the government continued work in building national resilience “with more enthusiasm and commitment.”

“Let us stay true to this mission. Expending all effort and vigor to continue building a safer, climate change adaptive and disaster resilient Philippines for this generation and the next.” he said.

NDRRMC also held a two-day International Disaster Resilience Forum (IDRF) on July 29 to 30, 2021, tackling various DRRM concepts and principles. The forum had three plenaries and three breakout sessions joined by local and international DRRM experts.
