The Office of Civil Defense distributed the frozen seafood donation of the Bureau of Customs, to various local communities, hospitals, and uniformed forces in the frontline, in support of their basic needs amid the pandemic.

A shipment of containers of Frozen Bonito, Mackerel, Moonfish, Squid, Round Scad, as indicated in a deed of donation, "were abandoned or forfeited in favor of the government pursuant to Section 117 in relation to Section 1113 of the CMTA and Fisheries Administrative Order No. 195 and/or 259 s. 2018."

The donation of frozen seafood from BOC were distributed to various beneficiaries. A total of 2,710 boxes of seafood were handed over to 28 health institutions and 17 Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police frontline units within the National Capital Region.

Meanwhile, facilitated by OCD regional offices, local communities in NCR, Regions I, III, and 4A have also received the donation.

As of July 23, 2020, 55 seafood containers were distributed to NCR, 21 to Region III, 16 to Region IV-A, and four (4) containers to Region I, for the residents of various municipalities and cities of the four regions.

Each container van has thousands of seafood boxes which were distributed to thousands of families in the regions.

A total of 10,100 boxes of seafood were distributed to Region I, approximately 134,4000 to NCR, 59,468 to Region III, and 42,557 to Region IV-A.

All distributed seafood were certified fit for human consumption by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The OCD, City and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, City and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Offices, Department of Agriculture, BFAR, Local Government Units, and volunteers have worked together in the distribution process.

The identification of the four regions as beneficiaries was based on the reported number of COVID-19 cases in the areas.

Regions 6 and 7 are also set to receive frozen seafood donation of BOC to augment the food distribution in areas that are under strict quarantine due to high COVID-19 cases.
