OCD ARMM spearheaded a Pre Disaster Risk Assesment with concerned member agencies of the Regional DRRMCouncil-ARMM on 08 April 2016, in preparation to the forthcoming 2016 National and Local Elections in ARMM.

Agencies present include select Local Government Units of Maguindanao, Police Regional Office-ARMM, Department of Social Welfare and Development-ARMM, Department of Health-ARMM, the Bureau of Public Information-ARMM, Regional Planning and Development Office- ARMM, and the Department of Transportation and Communications- ARMM.

Myrna J. Angot, OIC of OCD-ARMM, said possibilities of election-related incidents remain a priority where records from the past show countless election-related violence and affected the communities of the autonomous region.

During a coordinative meeting with the Police Regional Office-ARMM on 07 April 2016, contingency measures have been prepared for the upcoming 2016 national and local elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

PSupt Bernie Dacula, Deputy ROPD, said the police force are far ready come national and election in the ARMM on 09 May 2016.

“We identified the Election Watch List Areas (EWAs) specifically from the Provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur,” said Dacula.

Dacula said the coming up of the list were based on the recent coordinative meeting between the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). He added that the watch list areas in the ARMM were subdivided into three (3) categories.

“We rank Category 1 as Lower Risk, Category 2 as Moderate Risk, and Category 3 as the High Risk. However, as the Election Day approaches, the category of these places are still subject for changes”, he said.

Meanwhile, Dacula said that as part of their contingency measures, they were able to secure a list of personnel to be deployed in the watch list areas come May 09.

In this regard, Angot has expressed her deepest thanks to the PRO-ARMM for furnishing the Civil Defense- ARMM with a copy of the list of personnel to be deployed.

“This is a big help on our coordinative endeavours during the election day,” said Angot.

In an earlier interview, Angot said that to prevent the possibilities of relevant incidents, OCD-ARMM is slated to set up various incident command posts at clustered areas come May 09 2016 National and Local Polls. “This office also assures to extend logistics support to concerned member agencies,” said Angot.

Accordingly, the general elections in the country are for executive and legislative branches for all levels of government- national, provincial, and local, except for the barangay (village) officials.
