OCD CALABARZON conducted a training for teachers in Batangas on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, in partnership with DepEd CALABARZON at Padre Valerio Malabanan Memorial School, Malvar, Batangas on 06 April 2016.
One hundred forty teachers from the Province of Batangas participated in the training, who are also DRRM focal persons of DepEd divisions in Batangas. Part of the training were discussions onhydrometeorological hazards from PAGASA; geological hazards from PHIVOLCS; climate change adaptation from CCC; and the Philippine DRRM System, including an introduction to contingency planning and a guide on the conduct of earthquake drills, from OCD CALABARZON.
Regional Director Vicente F. Tomazar of OCD IV-A, during his opening remarks called on teachers to be frontrunners in advocating preparedness, safety, and resiliency not only in the school-level but also down to the community and family levels. He also drew attention on the important role of teachers as second parents of students while they are at school, particularly in ensuring the students' security during the onset of calamities.
The activity waspart of the series of DRR-CCA trainings for teachers which OCD CALABARZON has started in partnership withDepEd IV-A since July 2015.
