Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) experts paid a courtesy call to Regional Director Melchito M. Castro of Office of Civil Defense Region 1 and Chairperson of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 1 (RDRRMC1) at the OCD-RDRRMC1 Operations Center in Camp BGen. Oscar M Florendo, Parian, San Fernando City, La Union on 05 April 2016.

JICA together with Informatix, a private company in Japan introduced a new technology which is the “Verification Survey (V/S) with Private Sector on Integrated Geographic Information System Products for Improvement of Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management”. The project manager presented how the system recognizes vulnerable areas in Dagupan City, Binmaley and Lingayen which were the identified pilot areas of the project. The data was generated through inputs set into the system from the previous disasters experienced by the locality. He also showed other features of the system that can help in information and monitoring events and disasters.

The project aims to share SME’s technologies and see the applicability and effectiveness of applied technology for improving specific development challenges in the country.

The project was officially launched in Lingayen, Pangasinan on 31 March 2016 after commencing partnership with the local organizations and counterpart agencies headed by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.
