Datu Odin Sinsuat, MAGUINDANAO- The Office of Civil Defense- ARMM spearheaded today, March 08, 2014 the conduct of a one-day orientation on "Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) for the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) of Lanao del Sur held at Golden Lace Resto, Cotabato City.
Myrna J. Angot, OIC of the OCD-ARMM, said the activity is important for disaster managers most especially at the local level so they would analyze and understand the risk factors in their areas and would have possibly translate this into proper responses.
In an early statement, NDRRMC Chief and Civil Defense Administrator Alexander P. Pama said that PDRA is significant so it would be clear to everyone how they would respond.
Pama said disaster managers most especially those in local government, will be headlining pre-disaster risk assessments in pursuit to design appropriate responses according to their needs.
Meanwhile, Angot said there is still a need for more effort to make the public understand disaster warnings and translate it in the vernacular most especially to those who are from the countryside, and as well understand the impact of disasters on their lives.
Alongside the Civil Defense and the MDRRMOs, other government line agencies present during the activity include the Department of Interior and Local Government-ARMM, Department of Social Welfare and Development-ARMM, Regional Planning and Development-ARMM, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-ARMM, PAGASA Cotabato, PHIVOLCS Cotabato and the ARMM HEART.
